The
Character
and Emotions
of God
In God's holy
Word there
are times
when we see
His tenderness,
goodness,
and compassion
displayed,
and other
times we see
His anger,
severity,
and wrath.
When we look
throughout
God's holy
Word in full,
we see His
dealings with
mankind and
sin, and we
see His range
of heart and
emotions revealed
in both Old
and New Testaments.
"Therefore
consider the
goodness and
severity of
God..."
– Romans
11:22
A
Few Examples:
In Luke 13:34
we see Jesus
crying out
to Jerusalem
longing to
comfort her.
Another time
we see His
anger and
zeal revealed
as Jesus turns
over the tables
in the temple
(John, 2:13-17).
Then
we see Jesus
being moved
with compassion
for the multitudes
(Matt. 14:14).
And this same
Jesus In Matt.
11:20-24 rebuked
and spoke
judgment on
entire cities
because they
didn’t
repent (these
cities no
longer exist).
In
these few
New Testament
scriptures
we see the
character
and emotion
of God being
displayed.
He
is both the
Lamb of God
and the Lion
of Judah!
Putting
God in a Box
In the American
Church today
many want
to put God
into a pretty
little "nice
guy"
box, so we
strip away
so many facets
of His character,
and then present
Him to the
world the
way we think
they might
like Him.
This
does a great
disservice
to Him, to
the Church,
and to the
world. I
believe this
is why our
nation and
most of our
churches have
lost all fear
and sense
of the awesomeness
and greatness
of God. We
must present
Him in His
fullness!
Do
we Understand
and Know Him?
He
is the Lord
exercising
loving kindness,
judgment,
and righteousness
in the earth.

"Let
not
the
wise
man
glory
in his
wisdom,
Let
not
the
mighty
man
glory
in his
might,
Nor
let
the
rich
man
glory
in his
riches;
But
let
him
who
glories
glory
in this,
That
he understands
and
knows
Me,
That
I am
the
LORD,
exercising
lovingkindness,
judgment,
and
righteousness
in the
earth.
For
in these
I delight,"
says
the
LORD.
–
Jeremiah.
